Economics, geography, and schedule can each present hurdles for accessing fresh produce at the Goshen Farmers Market. In response, the Market piloted a mobile distribution of fresh produce by partnering with North Goshen Mennonite Church in Goshen’s Chamberlain Neighborhood.
Our vendors already bring produce to a central location and we have a system in place to combine it into bulk sales through our Community Supported Agriculture program. Over a 3 week period, the market sold 40 “shares” of produce to members of NGMC and their surrounding community, who took care of distributing the produce at the Church and collecting payments. Many of the shares (approximately $20 each) were subsidized with contributions from NGMC and the Market’s Share the Bounty fund. This collaboration will help us consider additional strategies for improving food access by making affordable produce available closer to home.
