From the FarmPlate glossary:
The CSE model, also referred to as community supported business or community supported entrepreneurship, provides community members with an opportunity to invest in the local economy while assisting small businesses with capital support. Instead of encouraging investment by individuals or companies outside of the community, CSE promotes local ownership and sustainable economies. Entrepreneurs and other business owners may choose to raise capital through community shares, micro-loans, equity investments or certificates (loans paid back over time in food, products or services). Donations of labor or professional services and other creative means of support may also play into this model. This model has been applied to a variety of different sectors, including agriculture (CSA), baking (CSB), fishing (CSF), edible gardening (CSG), food production and cooking (CSK), food retailers (CSM), restaurants (CSR) and foraging.
